Meeting 2023

Meeting “Tourism, World Heritage and climate change”

Tourism, World Heritage and climate change: experts will discuss this topic within the International Exchange of World Heritage Sites on May 31st in the Veneto Region.

Within the first edition of the International Exchange of World Heritage Sites, scheduled in CastelBrando, Treviso, on May 31st, there will be an in-depth Forum on the theme “Tourism, World Heritage and Climate Change”.

The climate change we are experiencing, necessarily changes our approach to tourism and represents a further challenge that tourism professionals are facing in each of their sectors, especially with regard to World Heritage Sites.

With this in mind, UNESCO has created and shared the “UNESCO World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism Programme”. This will form a new approach based on dialogue and stakeholder cooperation where planning for tourism and heritage management is integrated at a destination level, the natural and cultural assets are valued and protected, and appropriate tourism is developed.

Given the immediacy of the problem, a discussion between experts on this topic is extremely important -explained Marco Citerbo, M & C Marketing Consulting Administrator, organzier of the Exchange, and Carlo Francini, Scientific coordinator of the Association of Italian World Heritage Sites, added- For this reason we decided to enrich the Exchange program with this meeting attended by renowned experts in order to take stock of the situation and above all exchange good practices, assessments and strategies for the future.

The meeting will be attended by institutional representatives of Italian and International World Heritage sites, together with world-famous experts.

The speakers will be Matthew Emslie-Smith, World Heritage Monitoring Officer IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature, Fergus Maclaren, President of the International Council on Monuments and Sites ICOMOS, Joseph King, Senior Director of the ICCROM, International Center for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property.
